AMI Housing, Inc (AMIH) is a California nonprofit that provides housing, employment and life skills programs to residents of Nevada County and Placer County who otherwise might be homeless. Nevada County residents must be clients of Turning Point.
All AMI programs require:
- proof of county residency for 14 days before being eligible for funding
- current income that can support housing costs going forward after any funding assistance from AMIH
AMIH offers assistance in multiple languages through a Language Line service.
About the TAY program
- AMIH has funding for specific programs to serve Transition Age Youth (TAY) ages 18-24 in PLACER COUNTY. Nevada County does not have TAY (Transition Age Youth) specific funds via AMIH. In NC any funding AMIH may have for housing is all one pot. In Placer County they have a pot of money specifically for TAY which is why there is this separate program called TAY HOUSING - PLACER COUNTY - AMIH.
- Placer County residents must be screened by 211 for eligibility in order to be considered for services for TAY from AMI Housing.
- Use the income link to determine if the caller's income is below the required amount for their household size. Families whose gross income is at or less than 80% of the Area Median Income (including income of all adults in household) may be eligible. 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) is labeled as "Low Income" on charts. Income must be verifiable. This means they must have documentation matching the income they are reporting. Assistance from family and friends does not qualify. Minimum income is what they would need to support their housing costs within a short period of time.
- AMIH's TAY housing is for people who are eligible for TAY services and is a collaboration between AMIH and Turning Point Community Programs. The TAY house is an 18-month program designed to teach young adults the independent living skills required to live in the community. Each resident receives FSP services from Turning Point or ASOC (Adult System of Care). FSP stands for Full Service Partnership - a program for people with severe mental illness. Groceries, transportation, rent, utilities, and supportive services are included.
- Though not required for Transition Age Youth who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless, they may complete the Coordinated Entry (CE) process to be entered into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) so they may be able to more easily access additional services. Call 2-1-1 to be screened for a possible CE intake.
