Scooter's Pals offers numerous programs for dogs.

Rescue & Adoption Program — Scooter's Pals rescues dogs scheduled to die in high-kill shelters. They spay/neuter, fully vaccinate, and give any vet care needed. They also provide foster care or interim boarding, including all food and vet care, till a good-fit, adoptive family is found.

As soon as a dog is deemed ready to be adopted, they add the dog's write--up, photo(s), and foster contact info to our Adoptable listings on Petfinder.com.

Their dedicated adoption team carefully reviews the adoption applications received for each dog (applications are required). They also conduct interviews and do a home check in an effort to find the best, good-fit match for each dog and each family, too.

The Nevada County Pets In Need Pet Food Assistance Program offers gift cards redeemable at Incredible Pets. It's open to low-income households, limited to a total of 4 pets. All pets must be spayed/neutered.

The gift cards are distributed on a quarterly basis.

To apply for this one-year pet food assistance program, you can pick up an application at the NCPIN Dollar Thrift Store, 434 Colfax Ave, Grass Valley on Tuesdays and Saturdays 11am-3pm or Wednesday through Friday 10am-4pm.

You can also request an application via Facebook messenger or email [email protected]. Return the completed application any of these ways:

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe offers dogs and cats for adoption, as well as:

  • A Pet Pantry program for dogs and cats needing additional food resources due to limited income. Donations accepted and food can be picked up at the shelter located at 10961 Stevens Lane in Truckee.

The Placer SPCA offers programs designed to help Placer County residents keep their companion animals through difficult times. Through the SOS Program, the Placer SPCA offers financial assistance to Placer County residents.

  • Financial assistance
    • May include: help to offset temporary boarding costs or rental pet deposits while an owner relocates or assistance with veterinary treatment
    • The monetary amount available to individuals varies.
    • This is a one-time process. Once an individual is approved for funding they will not be eligible to receive funding again.


Eligibility
The SOS Program applies to residents of Placer County only, who are truly in need but are otherwise responsible animal caregivers. They must be able to demonstrate a history of responsible pet ownership and be able to continue to provide a safe and humane home environment for the animal.
